5 Of The Best Randomly Chosen Board Books You’ll Find
Generally when I write a blog, it’s well researched and the books are carefully chosen. However, with this blog I decided to write down the first five board books that came to mind, made the smalls in my life laugh, or fascinated them enough to want to read the book repeatedly, night after night… after night…. After night! You ALL know what I mean. So I quickly wrote down the first 5 that came to mind and there is no pattern to them at all, hence the title 5 Of The Best Randomly Chosen Board Books You’ll Find!
Board books are great for infants through 4 or 5 years old, yet some of them have information that goes beyond that age and is actually interesting to other readers as well. Whether it be facts about names of butterflies, or small sub-text giving more information on a subject, board books can be fascinating as well as beautiful.
A board book has many advantages we don’t often take into consideration when they’re part of our everyday world. Typically they’re a child’s first introduction to the world of books, literature and the printed word. They introduce simple topics in engaging ways. Some concepts are counting, opposites, types of vehicles, gardening, and animals. They expand a child’s interest and promote bonding between parents and children, help with hand-eye coordination, and develop language skills. But most of all they foster a love of reading.
So without further ado, here are my top 5!
Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle:
Little Blue Truck is a helpful sort of guy. But when trying to help a grumpy dump truck out of the muck, well, Little Blue gets stuck. When all his animal friends pitch in to get him back on the road it’s a cacophony of animal sounds that every kid will love. Schertle’s rhyming stanzas are perfect, and she gives readers the opportunity to chime in with vehicle and animal noises. There are 9 books in this series and they’re all terrific.
Some Bugs by Angela DiTerlizzi:
Some Bugs is a simple board book that is colorful, a good size for small hands, and packed with simple information for toddlers that are fascinated by insects, and for those that are not, the illustrations could possibly win them over. The book is well executed, the expressions on the faces of the bugs are priceless, and it’s an early learning book about wildlife and ecosystems. You just can’t go wrong with this book!
Hello World! Garden Time by Jill McDonald:
You can’t go wrong with this book. Again it’s an introduction into the ecosystems of gardens, but it’s so much more. It’s an easy-to-understand book with facts about how plants grow and how gardening puts food on our tables! There are 30 books in this series and all of them are superb.
