What would happen if you were thrown into a pumpkin pile because you are orange? Do you get angry or can you decide to turn the situation into something positive?
Confidence Spot is orange and he isn’t fond of Halloween for one good reason. People mistake him for a pumpkin. He often gets tossed into a pumpkin pile and nobody listens to him when he tells them he’s NOT a pumpkin. But Confidence Spot decides to start a new tradition and create positive pumpkins. The children in this book think this will be difficult, but this little orange spot is confident he can make a difference.
There are several reasons to like this book. In the overwhelming litter of socio-emotional books on the market, Diane Alber has proven that she has the knowledge and skill to connect with kids on tough subjects. The books are simply written and illustrated and get straight to the point. The message is – do you want to be unhappy or can you make this into a positive adventure? This is a difficult skill to learn, for kids and for many adults. This is a great book for early readers as well, and it includes one of the most favorite holidays celebrated, Halloween. Though I’m not a huge fan of softcover books, these are printed professionally, the color is great, and the binding will last. To note The Little Spot books come in boxed sets as well.
A Little Spot On Halloween by Diane Alber gets 5 stars from this reviewer.
