Winter Walk in the City is a colorful counting book that also presents different and diverse holidays from other countries and religions.
A refreshingly casual acceptance of diversity throughout a community.
The child in this book is taking a walk through the city. On the way there are many different references to winter holidays both religious and secular. The scenery depicts apartment buildings, food carts and bakeries, skylines and houses along with people from all different ethnic backgrounds. At the end it’s a celebration of community.
As a reviewer I appreciated this book for several reasons. First it’s simply a walk through the city. There’s no complicated text or forced imagery. The sights are what anyone would see in a community. The rhyme and text are simple and focus on the food and symbolism of different traditions rather than skin color. This is a refreshing take on what could be a very heavy subject. The artwork is vivid and bright and the conclusion is a sharing and accepting community.
A Winter Walk In The City by Cathy Goldberg Fishman gets 5 stars from this reviewer.
