Board Book, 30 Pages, Ages 2-4
Children dress up for Halloween and then learn yoga poses based upon their costumes! Little Mouse and his friend Opus the cat join in.
Little Mouse and his friend, Mr. Opus the cat, are getting ready to go trick-or-treating. At the McDoodle house Tammy and her friends are all dressed up in their Halloween costumes and preparing to go Trick-Or-Treating. However, first Tammy’s mom wants them to learn the Yoga poses that coincide with their costumes. When they finish, Little Mouse and his friends follow the children going from house to house and soon the festivities are over. When Little Mouse gets home he shows his family how to do the crooked tree pose, and they all stretch and relax.
The illustrations in this book are very cute and I like the little additions like the spider on top of the mummy, the bats and ghosts in the air, Little Mouses’ teeny tiny trick-or-treat bucket and the costumes on the mice. The addition of the yoga poses at the end is a nice touch and although I don’t participate in yoga I found myself wanting to try the crooked tree pose but failed miserably and decided sticking with the mummy pose was more my speed. Introducing children to yoga is good for their well-being and health and to be commended. This is a calm and quiet read about a subject that can be very loud, brash, and frightening. The only thing I would share about this book is that my own kids would have never held still long enough right before trick-or-treating to do yoga, although it’s a cute idea for a Halloween party prior to the day!
