
This past month’s issue of School Library Journal included an article about this year’s top trends in books for kids. And Earth Day, Every Day was a big item.
“….Unless we work together to effect change, the future of life on this planet is at risk.”
This article focuses on what children and teens can learn about eco-systems, climate, sustainability, and wildlife and the “…individual and collective actions that they can take toward creating a healthier, more sustainable planet.

Steve is entertaining yet determined in his job – he will roll that dung ball underground. Zookeepers write about the endangered species featured in this book as well.
- Where Have All The Birds Gone by Rebecca Hirsch – Discover the vast impact birds have on our ecosystems, human communities, food systems and learn about what scientists are doing to protect them. Nearly 30 percent of all birds in the US and Canada have vanished.
- The Magic and Mystery of Trees by Jen Green – This book is a must-have for children 7-9 with an interest in science and nature. Beautiful illustrations and striking detail is sure to delight all curious nature lovers both young AND old.
- A Good Place by Lucy Cousins – Without lecturing and with bold and cheerful color Cousins conveys an important lesson on ecosystem preservation and insect habitats.
